About This Project

The gallery above is showcasing my design examples for a fictional long-boarding publication entitled On Deck that I developed for Communications 473: Print Publication and Design. Using a Canon DSLR, I took a variety of images that include the wood background for the cover page and the image included in the 2-page spread. In addition to taking images for the publication content, I also used a woodgrain image as surface textures for the On Deck title typography. On the hybrid table-of-contents / cover page, I aligned the text so that it matched with the angle of the wood. I carried over this aesthetic in the 2-page spread, by having the text content on an angle to depict a sense of motion. For the image of the long-boarder, I captured the photo in burst mode to collect multiple images as he was moving across the bridge. In Photoshop, I merged and stitched all of these images together.
